About the "MidSouth Computational biology and BIOinformatics Society"
The mission of MCBIOS is to:
- foster networking and collaboration, and
- promote the professional development of the members.
We have a strong orientation toward supporting our student members.
Membership and participation is open to all though we focus our efforts on supporting our members in the MidSouth region of the US. This includes the states of:
- Arkansas
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Oklahoma
- Tennessee
- Texas
Interested people are invited to join from the above states and neighboring states in the Midwest and South Regions:
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Florida
- South Carolina
- Kentucky
- New Mexico
- Kansas
By focusing on an area where all members are within a "day's drive," we hope to encourage a high degree of participation and collaboration.
Five of the seven states in the core MidSouth region are EPSCOR States. Similarly, five of the seven states in the larger MidSouth region are EPSCOR states. For this reason, grant workshops are a regular component of the Society's Annual Meeting, particularly EPSCOR funding workshops (even if not residing in an EPSCOR state oneself, one's collaborator might be a researcher from an EPSCOR state).
MCBIOS adopted bylaws during the first annual MCBIOS conference in 2003.
MCBIOS is a membership organization dedicated to supporting local chapters. If you are interested in forming a chapter, please contact any member of the Board of Directors.
We are a "regional affiliate" of the International Society for Computational Biology
